About Me
- Name: starpower
- Location: Del Ray, VA
Just moved from Marina del Rey in Cali to Del Ray in Virginie. As the name implies, there is no marina here. But I like it anyway.

Really good stuff.
Can I beg to differ? I mean, just from my slow internet in South America vantage point. I´m sure she is making some really important points about feminism, but she kinda lost me. In the quote-respond-to-the response format. Can´t we just talk about the real issues? (abortion, lower pay, sexual assault for example) I mean I´m here in a country where 8 OUT OF 10 women will be sexually assaulted during there lifetime and where domestic laws were put on books in the 1990´s. It just seems like the preoccupation with pop culture is kind of beside the point. I know there´s a slew of really smart women´s studies professors who could tell me how I am wrong (and I did make a C in Feminist Theory so maybe they could put me in my place) but maybe the spice girls aren´t really the root of all our problems. Or was that her argument?
Newyorquina:
TOTALLY agree. I tought the Spice Girls stuff was a little bit of a luxury position. The real meat of the post, I think--and which I should've pointed out more explicitly--is the portion of it following the whole response-to-the-response...the part that begins with being tempted to go into a "deep pontification." The lobster analogy as well as the fish in water ones are what stood out most to me and what I wanted to point out to others.
Thanks for your thoughts. Very well taken and an important perspective.
